Costume Shop

Costumes are not required of our guests but you are certainly welcome to come in costume if you wish. That can be something as simple as a hair wreath for women or a plain, solid color peasant shirt.  Hats are recommended to protect you from sunburn and an old straw hat is a good start for looking like a peasant. Add a skirt and a wide belt and you’re on your way. Men can wear tights 🙂  or tuck black or brown pants into boots, wear a loose peasant shirt and start feeling like, well, a peasant (that is not an insult).

One of the best places we recommend to people to get a Renaissance costume is Amazon.

We have information about making simple costumes on this page. Here is the best book you’ll find for creating authentic looking looks.

The outfits shown above are considered “peasant” level costumes, known for their simplicity in design and affordability. All the components can be easily obtained from vendors at the festival.

In contrast, presented below is an exquisite illustration of the costumes worn by our courtiers. These aren’t items you can simply purchase at a store like Kohl’s, and you won’t come across anything of this caliber available for sale at the festival. Crafted by Lucrezia Vivaldi for Rydell Downward, portraying The Earl of Leicester, this masterpiece required over 1,000 hours of meticulous sewing
